چکیده

The hit-or-miss transform (HMT) is a fundamental operation on binary images, widely used since 40 years. As it is not increasing, its extension to grey-level images is not straightforward, and very few authors have considered it. Moreover, despite its potential usefulness, very few applications of the grey-level HMT have been proposed until now. Part I of this paper [B. Naegel, N. Passat, C. Ronse, Grey-level hit-or-miss transforms—part I: unified theory. Pattern Recogn., in press, doi:10.1016/j.patcog.2006.06.004] was devoted to the description of a theory enabling to unify the main definitions of the grey-level HMT, mainly proposed by Ronse and Soille, respectively. Part II of this paper, developed hereafter, deals with the applicative potential of the grey-level HMT, illustrated by its use for vessel segmentation from 3D angiographic data. Different HMT-based segmentation methods are then described and analysed, leading to concrete analysis techniques for brain and liver vessels, but also providing algorithmic strategies which could further be used for many other kinds of image processing applications. 2006 Pattern Recognition Society. A Multivariate Hit-or-Miss Transform for Conjoint Spatial and Spectral Template Matching

The Hit-or-Miss transform is a well-known morphological operator for template matching in binary and grey-level images. However it cannot be used straightforward in multivalued images (such as colour or multispectral images) since Mathematical Morphology needs an ordering relation which is not trivial on multivalued spaces. Moreover, existing definitions of the Hit-Or-Miss Transform in grey-lev...

Measurement of Plain Weave Fabrics Density Using Fourier Transforms

Warp and weft spacing and its coefficient of variation affect the physical properties of fabrics such as fabric hand, frictional and mechanical properties. In this paper the weft and warp spacing and its coefficient of variation for plain weave is calculated using Fourier transforms. Different methods have been used in this work including autocorrelation function. First, two dimensional power s...

A hit-or-miss transform for multivariate images

The hit-or-miss transform (HMT) is considered to be among the fundamental operations in the morphological toolbox. Initially, it was defined for binary images, as a morphological approach to the problem of template matching, whereas its extension to grey-level data has been problematic, leading to multiple definitions, that have been only recently unified by means of a common theoretical founda...

A robust hit-or-miss transform for template matching applied to very noisy astronomical images

The morphological Hit-or-Miss Transform (HMT) is a powerful tool for digital image analysis. Its recent extensions to grey level images have proven its ability to solve various template matching problems. In this paper we explore the capacity of various existing approaches to work in very noisy environments and discuss the generic methods used to improve their robustness to noise. We also propo...
